MODALS AND SEMI-MODALS
What are Modals?
Modals are helping (auxiliary) verbs that express ability, possibility, permission, obligation, advice, necessity, or certainty.
Main Features of Modals
– They are always followed by the base form (V1) of the verb.
– They do not change according to the subject.
– They do not take -s, -ed, or -ing forms.
– Questions and negatives are formed without using do/does/did.
Structure:

Semi-modals are verbs that behave partly like main verbs and partly like modal verbs. They usually need to before the main verb.
